First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression
On the first day, the interns were made to sit in a conference room and were provided with a clear bag containing a copy of The Protection of the Human Rights Act, 1993 a small notebook and a pen. The infrastructure is not very impressive. The internship, being a strict and hard one, was the first-day impression which did not turn out to be true.
Main Tasks
Main tasks included studying the Act, understanding the functioning of the commission, learning the commission’s jurisdiction, filling the forms based on the commission’s cognizance of a particular case, studying some significant death custodial cases and preparing a research report on the topic assigned.
Work Environment
The work environment is quite friendly. Interns from different universities and places work together in group discussions and project reports and the sir is also cooperative and helpful. The environment is not very strict. Every intern is required to work individually as well as in a group.
Good things
- Friendly environment.
- Good opportunity to learn about human rights.
- Builds team spirit.
- Research on a particular topic.
- Not very hectic.
- Break of around half an hour along with refreshment.
- Both theoretical and practical.
- Group discussions, debates and presentations on hot current topics.
Bad Things
- No Accommodation and Conveyance provided by the organisation. The interns from faraway places had to arrange their accommodation for the internship.
- No strictness related to attendance.
- Time duration – 9:30-1:00 which seems to me very less.
- No plagiarism check in a research report
- The conference room where interns are seated could not accommodate all the interns. The interns usually felt uncomfortable.
- No award for winning group discussions and debates.
