Google Gemini Gets a Huge Memory Boost, but There’s a Catch

With chatbots getting more advanced by the day, companies are developing memory features to help them remember the prompts you said. Google’s Gemini is the newest AI assistant to remember the things you type, albeit there’s a slight catch.

As Google announced on its blog The Keyword, Gemini is getting an advanced memory feature. Usually, when you want to ask a chatbot about something you discussed earlier, you need to either dig through all your conversations or manually remind it in your prompt.

Now, there’s no need to do either of those things. Just fire up Gemini and ask it to remember something the two of you discussed before. It’ll go through your chatlogs and find everything related to the topic. You can also build on top of what you discussed and recall it later.

Unfortunately, not everyone will gain access to Gemini’s new memory feature. To unlock it, you’ll need to be a Gemini Advanced subscriber on the Google One AI Premium Plan. Subscribers can probe Gemini’s memory on both the web and mobile apps.

With so many chatbots vying for the top spot, Google’s move is in line with what its competition is doing. We’re at the point where the biggest tech companies can produce good results with their chatbots, and now the onus is on adding enhanced features to one-up the others.

AI memory is nothing new; after all, ChatGPT has a memory feature that lets you define key facts about yourself. However, it seems that Google’s solution is less about creating something that remembers core details and more about making it easier to recall previous conversations. We’ll have to see how this feature fares against its rivals after people test it for a little while.
