Why I Stopped Playing Wordle and Started Using This Puzzle Website Instead

Ever since Wordle hit the internet, I’ve been playing puzzle games daily. After my family stopped sharing our Wordle scores, I decided to find a new daily word game website. Now, I’ve switched to Pocket Puzzles for daily word games.

Why I Stopped Playing Wordle

I loved Wordle at launch. It was quick, fun, and there was never a guaranteed win for that day’s puzzle. It was exciting to share scores with my family during lockdown when there was little else to do.

While other word games existed prior to Wordle, this specific game grasped public attention (and my own) in a surprising way. However, the quickness of the game led me to play other word games to fill the day. After I got tired of those, and didn’t really like any of the other New York Times games offerings (besides Connections), I decided to find a new place to play word games.

What Is Pocket Puzzles?

Pocket Puzzles is a website and app that offers daily word games. You can download the app on iOS now, with an Android app in the works. Pocket Puzzles also features a daily joke and fact.

I created an account to track my progress and save my stats. Creating an account grants access to play previous days’ puzzles in case you want to play more. Pocket Puzzles also has a feature to share your progress on a puzzle you’re stuck on with friends and family, so it can be social, too.

Games You Can Play on Pocket Puzzles

Pocket Puzzles features five daily games including Fix the Mix, Passcodes, Four Square, String Theory, and Letterheads.

Four Square is a unique game where players must find a word that connects groups of two clues, working toward the final answer in the middle. Once you solve the top two clues, you then have to find a connecting word between your answers.

My favorite game is Passcodes, which resembles the New York Times’ Connections. You are given a clue and must select the matching word (or words) from a group of words provided. As you advance through the stages, those words fall out of play. Not all words are used, either. You can also unlock hints, but your overall score will go down based on the hints used.

While Wordle had its moment in public consciousness, I’m glad I’ve found Pocket Puzzles. This puzzle collection offers some exciting alternatives and a whole backlog of previous puzzles to comb through.
